Dear Santa.....

Ms. Wheelers fourth grade class came into our room and helped us write letters to Santa.  The kids had fun, the big and little ones.  They all wrote to Santa their wishes and wants for Christmas.  One of the 4th grade boys came up to me and said, "Ms. Grizzell, this is so much fun!"  I am thankful we have such great positive role models in our school for our younger ones.  One day in our old school, we visited Ms. Wheelers class and her students read to the kindergartners, and then they read to the 4th graders.  They loved this as well.  We will be doing lots more activities between the two grades.  Here are some of the letters that were written.

First of all let me say that I have many, many, many, things to be thankful for...
1.  my healthy, loving children, and nieces and nephews
2.  my healthy loving, caring, supportive, God loving, (and the list could go on..) parents
3.  my healthy loving, caring, supportive, God loving, (and the list could go on..) sisters and brothers in law
4.   next on my list is MWE.  I am so blessed to be working in such a wonderful place, with wonderful friends and students.
and at the top of my list also is.....my class full of 21 smart, caring, loving, and sweet children.  I love them each dearly and am so blessed to be their teacher!  I  am also thankful for their wonderful and supportive parents.  I really do appreciate each of your children and you!  I love coming to my job everyday and that in itself is something to be thankful for! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to conference with me.  Even though it is time consuming,  I do enjoy conferencing with parents.  I love being able to share with parents all the things that their child is able to do,  and it gives us a chance to get to know each other a little better.  It also gives me a chance to get to know my students through their parents eyes.  It truly takes a village!  Students do so much better in school when they know their parents are interested in what they are doing, and that their teacher and their parent communicate. This week we had our first week of parent volunteers...and can I say THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!  I hope you know that you are so appreciated!!!!!!!  and the kids LOVE it when the parent volunteer is in our class.  Thank you again!!!!  This week was red ribbon week.  We had fun with our crazy socks, our hippie clothes, our jerseys, and of course our pajamas!  I have to say the rock wall was the bomb!!!  The children LOVED it. Below are some pictures..it was a great day!

We have busy these last couple of weeks getting into the routine of literacy centers, math workshop, writers workshop, and "ketchup and mustard".   My kindergartners are doing a great job following the routines and getting their work completed. We have been working on number concept in math, making sets, and writing numbers.  Our literacy centers have really taken off .  In science, we have learned about our 5 senses and sources of light and heat.  The children loved the science experiment we did.  We put chocolate bars on a graham cracker and put them out in the sun to see what would happen.  Then we got to eat our experiment, that was the best part.

Last week we had a great time on our first field trip.  We went to Dewberry Farm.  The weather was great and the farm was so much fun.  Each year they add something new.  This year it was a huge tube slide that the kids (and teachers) slid down on while sitting on a potato sack.  Be on the look out for our class book that we are going to write together as a class, about our trip to the farm.  You will love the pictures.
