I think you can say we have settled into the new school year.  We are getting used to the routines and rules that are a part of kindergarten.  This week we started our literacy centers.  Next week our centers are going to have a little more accountablility, I think the kids are ready for the challenge.  This past week was filled with sorting objects by more than 1 attribute in math, and reading fairy tales and talking about the beginning, middle, and end of the story in language arts.  We have one more student to share the All About Me bag, and then we will get started learning about American Symbols. In Science we have been finishing up the 5 senses, and started learning about colors.  We did a fun experiment in class.  We took the 3 primary colors and mixed them to make other colors.  We did this by using red, blue, and yellow colored water and putting drops onto wax paper.  Ask your child about this, they LOVED it! Ask them what happens when  you mix  a drop of yellow and red, yellow and blue, and blue and red.

Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for coming to curriculum night.  We had a great turnout.  If you weren't able to attend,  we sent the handouts with your child in their daily folder.  I love curriculum night because it gives us a chance to share with you all the learning that will be going on throughout the year.  Our goal for each one of your children is to first instill in them a love for learning and a  love for school.  We also want to take your child from where they are academically and move them on.  Our instruction  is differentiated for each one of your children.  Not only do we do lots of learning in the academic sense, but also LOTS of learning in the social aspect. Learning to share, listen to others, respect others and their feelings,  is  so very important.  And let me tell you, this is a great group of kindergartners!  You have done a great job preparing them for their first year of school.   Together we are a team, you, us (the teachers), and your child.  We want the very best for your child, as do you! So...we are off to a great start!

We had a busy week!  At the beginning of the week we had a weather drill.  We all had to go to the gym and pretend to prepare for a bad weather day.  Recess was taken early in the day because of the hot weather. Hopefully,  this next week the temperature outside will be a little cooler (below 100-haha!) We had a great performance on Tuesday, Pete The Cat.  The children had so much fun and it was enjoyed by all ages.  In class we have had fun reading fairy tales and acting them out, as well as nursury rhymes.  We are learning that letters make up a word, that when we read we go from left to right, and top to bottom.  We are singing songs about rhyming words, and in math we are learning about  sorting.  We have sorted our shoes( by laces, no laces, and by velcro, no velcro), our snack, and many more things. Our All About Me bag continues to be a big hit in the classroom.  The best part about starting a new year, is learning about all of our new friends in our class, and if you ask you student they will probably say the best thing is free choice centers.

Fun Tuesday

We saw a great performance today.  It was Mr. Eric ,the author of the book,  Pete the Cat.  We read the book in class, and today we got to see Mr. Eric, and the illustrator, James Dean,  talk about their book, sing and perform.  We all enjoyed it.  The classes were wonderful!  We received lots of compliments on how well our children behaved.  Thank you to our PTA and Blue Willow Bookshop for letting us see such a great performance.

WOW!

I can't believe it is September already and we just finished our 3rd week of school.  We have been busy learning about our classmates, while we share our ALL ABOUT ME bag.  If your child has not brought it home yet, be on the look out for it.  In Science we have been learning about our 5 senses. I love the beginning of school because we always read fairy tales and talk about their story elements. (ie: characters, settings, etc..)  This week we also had our wonderful counselor come and visit our class.  She shared a story, the class enjoyed her !  Math this week was just routines and some free exploration of our math tubs.  As the children left today, their ticket out of class was to tell me what their favorite part of the week was.  Here are some of their responses:
Isabel, Kandice, and  Aniyah  loved having fun in the housekeeping center.
Jenna loved lunch the best.
Luke, Jake, Myles, and Daniel loved free choice.  ( That is towards the end of the day where you can pick any center to go to--LOTS and LOTS of socialization going on!)
Sarah, Siona, and Ashley liked Health Fitness the best.
Jessie, Jacob, Redding, and Lonnie liked going to Art.
Gillian liked recess the best.
Christian liked building his tower.
Colin liked playing with his friends this week.
Abby liked sharing her All About Me bag.
and Patrick just loved coming to school..(gotta love that!!!)
